Golden Nugget preview

One of the supporting feature races this evening at Gloucester Park is the time-honoured Golden Nugget for 4yos. That age group might seem a little odd for thoroughbred racing fans but this breed mature later. It has been won by some sensational horses in the past, on the way through to a Grand Circuit career. Last year's winner was Soho Tribeca who lines up as one of the main chances. in the InterDom final

1 Ultimate Machete (1/10): G1 New Zealand Free For All Winner in brilliant fashion that won the other 4YO G1 here easily two weeks ago, lucky enough to draw barrier one on both starts at Gloucester Park, will win.

2 Vampiro (60/1): String of wins come to an end when beaten at Bunbury last time, hard ask.

3 Space Junk (30/1): G2 runner-up last week in 4YO Championship after having a perfect run, place from draw.

4 Motu Meteor (11/1): Victorian that has had absolutely no luck in his two runs in WA, gets a good draw here but.

5 Handsandwheels (60/1): Had the perfect drive and run when second to Ultimate Machete in the G1 two weeks ago, will need similar luck again. G1 winner as a 3YO.

6 Maczaffair (50/1): Seventh and fourth in the two 4YO features so far, place only. Good run last week.

7 Tisadream (80/1): Never a chance last week and went to the line hard held. Will struggle from this draw again though.

8 Im Rockaria (40/1): Has had no luck throughout the 4YO Triple Crown so far, can’t see much changing from this draw I’m afraid.

9 Our Zac Whitby (90/1): Like many, had no luck in the 4YO Championship last week, but likely that will be the same from the outside of the front row.

SECOND ROW
10 Herrick Roosevelt (7/1): Fourth in the G1 two weeks ago after sitting outside Ultimate Machete, this time he should sit behind him and definitely be in the finish.

11 Rock Diamonds (25/1): 4YO Championship winner last week, will be hoping for a nice run through from the draw.

12 Rocknroll Lincoln (70/1): Not the greatest amount of luck in the G1 two weeks ago. Draws poorly here.

lay the field - my favourite racing strategy

Dabbling with laying the field in-running at various prices today, not just one price, but several in the same race. Got several matched in the previous race at Brighton, then this race came along at Nottingham. Such a long straight at Nottingham makes punters often over-react and think the finish line is closer than it actually is. As you can see by the number of bets matched, there was plenty of volatility in this in-play market. It's rare you'll get a complete wipe-out with one horse getting matched at all levels, but it can happen, so don't give yourself too much risk...
