Daytona trading last night

No marvellous green book to show off this year, although it was a decent profit on turnover considering how little liquidity was on Betfair. Being on Premier Sports for the first time didn't help since very few people have subscribed to it, plus the Betfair site has been dodgier than the BBC's 'The Real Hustle' recently. It was easy enough to get a live stream but I doubt many others would have bothered. It's not the most popular sport outside of the US anyway, and also having to deal with a toddler who didn't want to go to bed before 11pm made it incredibly difficult to trade! I'd emptied most of my acct recently, so I'm more than happy with a £45 green book from a £60 balance. Same old theory for low liquidity, many runner events. Just keep putting up half-decent offers for small stakes. Increase the size of the lays as you create more green on the other runners. Don't get over-competitive (let someone else jump ahead of you in the queue if they...

Betfair in the USA - still a long way off

Over the past few months, there has been some excitement about the prospects of exchange wagering being permitted in the USA , particularly California and New Jersey. The governments of these two states have passed legislation to allow exchange betting on local horse racing, with Betfair heavily involved in the lobbying. All that has happened is the current gambling legislation has been expanded to include a racing-only betting exchange as an option, it's not a given, and it's certainly not a given that Betfair have the rights to it. There are still some huge obstacles a betting exchange has to overcome before a Betfair-branded exchange is up and running in the USA. 1 - the debate over the ethics of laying horses . That hasn't occurred yet, and there's no reason to believe American racing people will be any less antiquated than the rest of the world when it comes to explaining that you can effectively lay a horse via current wagering systems, it's just more comp...

it's AFL Grand Final time

More obscure sports advice. Well, it's obscure in the UK, but it certainly isn't in southern Australia. Here's the Betfair betting guide on Aussie Rules footy. If you fancy waking up at 5am for the climax of the AFL season, it's worth trading. Firstly - Aussies can't bet online during a match. So they have to phone up to place a bet, meaning liquidity is quite thin. This means you can put up a market at 107% and be front of the queue rather than 101% like in most other sports. The game can have massive swings, it's not uncommon for teams to go on four or five goal runs, and then concede similar. The wind can play a part, but teams change ends at the end of each quarter to keep it fair. It's a great sport for in-play betting, possibly the best because of the high scoring and potential for big swings. My tip, Geelong by about 30pts. I won't be trading it because I'll be at the pub from 4.30am celebrating 'our national day' with fellow Aussies i...
